South Island Farmer of the Year
It is open to all types of farming, but the farm must be a viable commercial activity in its own right. All types of farming are eligible but the farms must be a viable commercial activity. It is a requirement that the winner also hosts an open day on their property at an appropriate time after the award has been granted. The award itself takes the form of an overseas travel grant, valued at $15,000. A second award of $7,500 is also presented. A TM465 GPS system valued at $6000 will be awarded to the entrant the judges determine will most benefit from the application of the technology to their on farm innovation. Through this competition, the Foundation aims to recognise outstanding, innovative farmers, who are providing leadership in land-based business and who will benefit from viewing other operations overseas.
